{"id":1844,"date":"2004-11-18T17:42:01","date_gmt":"2004-11-18T17:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/cah\/?post_type=events&#038;p=1844"},"modified":"2023-11-23T00:24:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-23T00:24:49","slug":"2023-decolonising-film-festivals-and-curating-african-cinemas","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/dffr\/public_engagement\/2023-decolonising-film-festivals-and-curating-african-cinemas\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 Decolonising Film Festivals and Curating African Cinemas: Networking Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3601 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/dffr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2004\/11\/networking-event-kcl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/dffr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2004\/11\/networking-event-kcl.jpg 940w, https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/dffr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2004\/11\/networking-event-kcl-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/research.uregina.ca\/dffr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2004\/11\/networking-event-kcl-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Decolonising Film Festivals and Curating African Cinemas<\/em> was a two-day networking event sharing practices and methodologies in film festival research and practice.<\/p>\n<p>We were delighted to count on highly experienced guest speakers from the film industry and academia, including:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Ana Camila Esteves<\/strong>\u00a0(Co-founding director and co-curator,\u00a0<strong>Mostra de Cinemas Africanos<\/strong>\u00a0in Brazil)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof Lindiwe Dovey\u00a0<\/strong>(Leader,\u00a0<strong>Screen Worlds<\/strong>, SOAS)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desta Haile\u00a0<\/strong>(Festival Director, Film Africa London)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr R<\/strong><strong>achel Johnson<\/strong>\u00a0(Researcher, University of Leeds)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amayel Ndiaye<\/strong>\u00a0(Coordinator, Festival Films Femmes Afrique in Senegal)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Robin Steedman (<\/strong>Researcher, Copenhagen Business School, research collaborator)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof Sheila Petty<\/strong>\u00a0(Researcher, University of Regina) &#8211; online<\/p>\n<p>This was a free networking and educational event open to students, researchers, festival-goers, cinephiles and the broader public in order to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>strengthen and broaden existing and new collaborations<\/strong> between African film festivals, researchers, and students, namely, Film Africa (London), Festival Films Femmes Afrique (Senegal), the Leeds International Film Festival, the Mostra de Cinemas Africanos (Brazil), and rearchers from the Screen Worlds Project at SOAS, University of Leeds, University of Regina, Copenhagen Business School, and King\u2019s College London.<\/li>\n<li><strong>offer a collaborative and productive performative and discussion space<\/strong>, through the co-curation and co-organisation of a series of film screenings followed by discussions, with the presence of curators and researchers of each of these festivals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>transfer knowledge to pedagogy and research<\/strong>, extending the impact of the research project \u2018Decolonising Film Festival Research Methodologies\u2019, led by Prof Sheila Petty (NPI, University of Regina) and Dr Estrella Sendra (Co-PI, King\u2019s College London).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The programme included three different events across two days (6 and 7 March 2023).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Decolonising Film Festivals and Curating African Cinemas was a two-day networking event sharing practices and methodologies in film festival research and practice.
