During the 2023 edition of Vues d’Afrique in Montreal, we seized the opportunity to convene all involved collaborators in our research project. As part of the international conference organized by the Toronto, McMaster, Regina, and Victoria Universities, we hosted a engaging roundtable discussion. Incorporated into the program of the conference, the occasion provided a platform for insightful discussions and knowledge sharing among participants from various festivals and academic institutions.
Under the title of “Decolonizing Film Festival Research in a Post-Pandemic World”, the event occurred on 28 April 2023, featuring the following speakers – our research collaborators:
- Prof Sheila Petty (University of Regina/Canada)
- Dr Estrella Sendra (King’s College London/UK)
- Dr Ana Camila Esteves (King’s College London/UK)
- Prof Gabriela Almeida (Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing/Brazil)
- Dr Ben Akoh (African Movie Festival in Manitoba/Canada)
- Dr Robin Steedman (Copenhagen Business School/Denmark)
- Laura Feal (Hahatay/Senegal)
- Dr Rachel Johnson (University of Leeds/UK)
During the event, we had the chance to present the ongoing progress of the trial methodology to a qualified audience. This also marked the first occasion where all collaborators came together to share their individual impressions of the research process.
