The Father (2020) is a film about dementia, starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. In this psychological drama, a man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

Discussion with audience participation will follow the Screening.

Discussant:  Dr. William Smythe, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Regina

Discussion: “The Father presents a compelling portrait of the lived experience of an older individual suffering through severe dementia. Discussion with the audience will focus on the main character’s subjective experience, our empathy with his plight and the importance of human connection to our understanding of our shared life in the world and, ultimately, of ourselves.”

* In order to maximize inclusiveness during the presentation, we encourage masking while in the room. Masks will be available at the entrance.
